My Relationship with Dogs

When I was a little kid, I was deathly afraid of dogs. While I don't know exactly where it stemmed from, I do remember that two small dogs ran towards me at a very fast speed, which my little 4-year old brain likely interpreted as vicious, carnivorous beasts. Because of my fear, I was mortified when my family got a dog. As a small child, I wasn't the best owner, but my fear or dogs quickly diminished, replaced by my love for them.

My Favorite Breeds

While I love all dogs, I prefer some breeds over others. For example, I tend to get along with breeds that are more trusting when you first meet them, such as Golden and Labrador Retrievers. I also really like small dog breeds because of how easy they are to pet, like Bichon Frises and Malteses.

Golden Retrievers

As mentioned before, Golden Retrievers are one of my favorite breeds. In fact, my old dog was a Golden Doodle (a mix between a Poodle and a Golden Retriever). They're friendly and energetic, which means they are excellent to run around with and play. Overall, Golden Retrievers are a great breed!

Labrador Retrievers

Since Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers are in the same family of dog breeds, they have many similar attributes, hence why they have been grouped together. Labradors have a lot of the same qualities as Golden Retrievers, being very rambunctious and kind. I really like this breed as well, and think that I would definitely get either a Labrador or Golden if I lived in a larger home.

Bichon Frises

Bichon Frises are also another one of my favorite dog breeds. They are small and easy to pet, as well as being very cute. They tend to be quite feisty, however are also very playful and affectionate. I think that Bichon Frises are an amazing breed to own.

Malteses

Malteses tend to be docile, easygoing, and gentle. However, there are also some that are similar in personality to Bichon Frises. They also have the classic puppy dog eyes, meaning that they can get what they want pretty easily if you're not careful! I think that if I were to get a dog, I would definitely get a Maltese.
